I am a little over a year past my 5 year mark when I was suppose to get my mirena taken out. I feel sick and crampy. I feel lots of uncomfortable pains near my ovaries. I took a pregnancy text and I'm not pregnant. I can not go to doctors till I get insurance. Could my expired mirena be causing harm to me?

Mirena is still effective for up to 7 years. If you had in it place for 7 years and can't have it changed then it would be adviseable to use condoms as well as mirena until you could have it removed.

There is no harm in leaving the Mirena in even though it's been in for over 5 years. I would suggest that when your insurance comes in you go and get it checked and changed if need be.
