My father suffered a mini-stroke about 3 months ago and has had several new issues to deal with on his road to recovery. Everything is complicated by the fact that he weighs about 412 pounds. He has been taking medication for high blood pressure, arthritis & Imodium AD for irregular bowel syndrome. Since his stroke, he has been prescribed Furosemide to control his water retention, Plavix blood thinner and Pot Chlor Er Tabs to insure that he has plenty of potassium. He's noticed the he feels jittery and unable to think as clearly as before the stroke but his mental condition is worsening. He's unable to sleep well and the past three nights have been interrupted with hallucinations that include the TV moving all around the room, seeing people that aren't there and asking questions about other rooms in the house that he knows the answers to. After talking to my mother for a few minutes, he comes back to his senses and realizes that it's all a hallucination. He thinks he's losing his mind and we're trying to get some answers for him. Could it be as simple as dehydration or a urinary tract infection (which are the 2 things his dr. is exploring)? Could it be drug interactions? Does it sound like the beginnings of dementia? It usually happens within about 4 hours of taking his PM meds and he doesn't feel 100% better for at least 12 hours. Any input would be helpful....Thanks so much!
