Exercise that will not aggravate TMJ problem?

Hi all,

This is my first post in here, I've picked up a few good tips on dealing with TMJ disorder from other threads and this seems to be the best place to ask for advice.

I guess my problem with TMJ isn't as bad as some on here, or else I wouldn't consider exercise, but as my the pain/tightness comes from clenching & grinding I find it hard to exercise without clenching my jaw.

This doesn't tend to happen with tamer things like walking or even some light work with weights, but I'd like to do something that gets my heart rate up (new year - lose weight and all that Wink.

Anyone got any tips on controlling the clenching, and are there particular types of fitness activities you'd recommend please?

Thanks

Thanks for the tip, I'll look into it.

My concern with this is that I'd still clench my jaw around the bite guard which would put more stress on the already overworked masseter.

Excellent stuff, thanks.

I'm seeing my dentist soon to be fitted for a hard splint to wear at night.

Sorry if this is a daft question, but is that the same as a bite guard?
