Q: Exercise no longer helps BP

Im a 23yr old male, 6'2" 193 lbs. When I first discovered that I had higher then normal blood pressure it was reading about 140 / 88. Here is my strange dilemma; when I would add cardio activities to my exercise program (mostly just strength training prior to this) I would receive a huge benefit in BP reduction for about the first week. My blood pressure would get down to about 122 / 77, after about a week though my blood pressure goes right back up to 140/88 - this is with me sticking to the same exercise program. At this point I get frustrated and stop the cardio program and then end up picking it up again in the future with the same effects. This has been going on for about a year now.

This is an unfortunate event because I DO feel the difference in my blood pressure. When Im around the 140/88 range I feel slightly light headed, hands and feet tingle a bit, not able to get a good nights rest and I have no energy. Whenever I do get my BP down I feel fantastic. I would really like to keep my BP low using exercise but Im not sure why I have inconsistent results. If anyone has any experience, explanations or advise to give it would be must appreciated. Thank you.

Exercise and High Blood Pressure
You're awfully young to get high blood pressure. Does it run in your family?

One thing you might consider is investing in the breathing techniques. It only takes 15 minutes a day and works better than exercise. That isn't to say that you shouldn't be exercising but don't do it hoping your blood pressure will drop.

Exercise is only one part of the equation. And I commend you on that. The other part is proper nutrition. Look into taking a high quality, pharmaceutical grade multi vitamin supplement, fish oil, and a grape seed extract. Before I started taking supplements, my BP was around 207/96. That was about 3yrs ago. I just had it checked at the doctor's office today and it was 127/80.
