I am going to get a total hip replacement on my left hip. I have been (and still am) into bodybuilding my whole adult life. I am 47 years old. My question is what kinds of exercises will I be able to do for my lower body after I have recovered completely?

Thanks
Bob

Here are a couple of guides to exercises you can do after a total hip replacement. From the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Smile Remember to take it easy and gradually build up. IT's a very traumatic surgery for the body!

Seeing my husband had this surgery on his left hip 6 months ago and my son who is near your age 9 months ago, I do have a bit of knowledge along this line...Some things you will never be able to do again....however, many you will gradually work yourself back into shape to make possible...

Body building is performed with your arms but I hesitate saying how you will be able to use your legs...I know our son got away from the stairmaster as it gave him some troubles...If you put too much pressure on the good leg then it too, could give you trouble...You have to watch yourself so that you do not fall...Your stitches may be hard to heal...Don't force yourself yet don't baby yourself....Be careful the first few weeks...Have every convenience that you need for this surgery in place at home awaiting your return...One of the most necessary things is a raised toilet seat...This drop to a normal level can be a killer.....Don't be afraid to take your pills and don't force yourself....You will do just fine....

Best of luck,
Caroline
