Q: Ex does NOT want me involved in pregnancy

I was dating a girl on and off after a very painful divorce. We were not compatible, and I guess it was nice to have a companion. needless to say she became pregnant, and we broke up early in the pregnancy because it just was not going to work out. I kept in contact with her, however I didn't want to lead on any future potential of a romantic relationship, and the truth is I am still healing over the loss of my marriage.

She is now having complications during the pregnancy and is not allowing me to be involved in doctor appoitments and let's just say that this is a very bad situation to bring a baby into. I want to be involved, but I am being shoved away by her and her family, and I fear the it's going to get worse once the baby is born permitting the baby survives after the birth. My ex is low on amniotic fluid and will be on hospital bed rest for the remaner of her pregancy. I really don't know what to do, and advise would be appriciated and follow up questions are welcome.

Thanks!

You can't really make her let you be a part of the pregnancy. But, after the child is born, you can seek visitation or possible joint custody. I advise you to seek a consultation with an attorney to see what your options are. Good luck to you.

If she is having complications and doesn't want you around, fighting it will only cause her and the baby more stress which is not good. Look into what can be done once the baby is born. If you are the father, you have rights. The onus is on you to find out what those rights are and if it means paying a lawyer, well, get used to spending money because it is part of the responsibility of being a parent along with getting along with your coparent, the mother of the baby. No matter what your relationship is like outside of parenting, if you make a baby together, that is a partnership and it has to be treated with respect and compromise.

Good luck. I hope your baby is happy and healthy and you get this worked out.
