Q: Ex-cutter : scar removal ?

I used to be a cutter but I have recently managed to stop. The last cuts I did were Dec of 2008 (on my legs). When they healed, they scarred pretty badly. I've been using a silicone based scar cream (New Skin) for about 8 weeks now. The scars have lost their puffiness and have faded a little, but most of them are still dark enough to stand out quite a bit against my skin.

I've heard some good things about Mederma and Vitamin e?

Also, I'm 17, so I don't have a lot of money on hand. However, if I could get treatment under... say, $150, I would do it.

Thanks,

Yogourt

Hey. I am in your situation, too... except I'm still struggling w/ cutting. Anyhow, I have some things that may help you! I've found that lemon juice "spread" repeatedly on the scars helps reduce the color... because lemon juice is a natural bleach it bleaches out the darkness in your scar. Another thing that helps is hydrogen peroxide, which also has "natural" bleach in it. Plus, it cleanses the wound... typically, you should use this before the cut has sealed itself, but in your case, the bleach may still help.
For future reference, putting lemon juice on a cut while it is still open hurts like you-know-what, but it really makes the scar disappear: no lie.
Oh, and good luck on stopping!! Smile

I'm an ex-cutter myself - I haven't cut for 10 years now and I found that using natural Aloe Vera - straight from the plant really faded my scars quite significantly.
