Hi im new here, have been on different types of anti-d's for a year , but prozac is the one that seems to work best for me. i was put back on prozac 20mg about 2months ago, 3 weeks ago after having a open and honest chat (and one of those 10 questions survey) i was put up to 40mg.
At the moment i dont feel any better, hasnt seemed to of made a difference.
I have everything to be happy about, loving family, beautiful children, but feel very alone and cross with myself that i seem to be getting no better.
My husband says i am better than i was, i know i am (i was very low early last year)but i am not 'me', i have forgotten who i am.
How long does it take for the increase of prozac to work?
Thanks for reading.

Hello,

Actually your post sounds quite promising to me. The best measue is always someone else as they can see you and hear you while we cannot. We hear what's going on in our head.

Your doctor is best to advise on how long before you can expect improvements. Try a daily journal, morning and night, just note how you feel. Ratings from 1 to 10 would do. But don't look at the previous scores. Cover it over or fold the paper so you can't see until you have, say, a month's scores. Then look at them.

You say you have everything to be happy about but that's today isn't it. The origin of our depression often goes right back to our first few years so a therapist is needed to help you find why and when it started. Once you find that then the depression will reduce some.

Not all meds help, even when increased. A med that works at 20 may do no better at 40. It sounds logical that it should but there's nothing logical about this ilness, the treatments or the pills. Go with what you feel and your husband tells you. Make sure he is being honest too, not just pumping you up.
