Q: Establishment of ovulation
asked by: DoctorQuestion on August 7th, 2008
Hi there
My cycles are getting shorter they have gone from a 40 day cycle to a 28 day cycle for the last three cycles. I have been TTC to two years and have had one year of fertility treatment up to IUI using clomid, pregnyl and another injection which i cannot remember - that was six months ago when i last had treatment. My diagnosis was high prolactin levels, uterus linning too thin, eggs not developing to the correct size and unfriendly mucus and i had a blocked tube.
I have in the past three months moved from living in qatar ( which was total hell and very stressful) and i am now living in ireland ( total heaven) i have also not been working for the past three months. Could it be that as i am a happyer person now ( was suffering depression in qatar) that my cycles are getting shorter and by body and hormones are getting better and that i might be able to concieve naturally? Why would my cycles get shorter?? Thanks so much!

Infertility Answer A4561
Current medical status: TTC for two years - been on clomid for eight months, pregnyl and another injection also been on duphastron, and a drug for friendly mucus had one tube unblocked
Current medical treatment: not having fertility treatment at present

According to the suggested diagnosis (“ high prolactin levels, uterus lining too thin, eggs not developing to the correct size, and unfriendly mucus”) you probably have an endocrine disorder that prevents ovulations, so conceiving may be impossible. One blocked tube is an additional factor that further contributes to your sterility problem. Doctors have given you ovulation stimulators but obviously the results were not satisfactory.

Stress might have a negative impact on your fertilization ability but I don't think that the stress is the main cause for your sterility.

Normalization of the cycles might indicate that your ovulation is established but you need proof i.e. detection of progesterone in the second phase of the cycle. If you establish the ovulations you can conceive naturally.
