My grandmother is currently in the hospital due to a gallstone attack which was accompanied by a slight fever and elevated white cell count. She is on iv antibiotics and was on morphine for a day, but is now off morphine and in no pain, has no fever, and feels like she's back to normal.
A CT on admission showed gallstones in the gall bladder and common bile duct, so they want to follow this up with a MRCP and then an ERCP if there are indeed stones in the common bile duct, and then a cholecystectomy the day after the ERCP. Does this seem overly agressive given her age?
I'm very concerned about the possible side effects of ERCP, and given that she is currently in no pain I wonder if we should check her out of that hospital and seek a second opinion.
Thanks in advance for any advice!!
