Q: epigastric hernia

I am a 32 yo female. I have an epigastric hernia midway between my sternum & umbilicus. I saw a surgeon & he said I can leave it alone (no risk of it getting strangulated) or repair it if it bothers me. I am leaning towards repairing it surgically, in the hopes that I can continue doing pilates and and other ab work in the gym. Pilates causes the hernia to pop out, i am able to reduce it, but it is slightly painful. Pilates is also difficult for me know because certain moves cause discomfort and i am so afraid these exercises will make the hole bigger. I'm afraid pilates may have contributed to my hernia to begin with.

Can this get bigger when I get pregnant in the future?

Is mesh unsafe? I'm seeing a lot of posts about infection, pain & adhesions related to mesh.

will I have pain or feel the mesh for the rest of my life?

since I am only 32, am I likely to need a revision of this surgery later in life?

How many repairs should a doctor have successfully completed before you would be comfortable with using them?
