Enlarged kidneys in a 24 wk fetus (Page 1)

I just saw this post and I apologize for not responding sooner.

How are things going?

I went through this with my child. They found it during a routine pregnancy ultrasound. My child developed hydropnephrosis from UPJ obstruction. Had surgery at 3 months of age and is doing well now.

Hope everything is going OK.

Am 21 weeks pregnant and i just found out that my baby girl has an enlarged kidney and am so scared i don't know what to expect. I want everything to be okay especially since i've been so paranoid about this first pregnancy.

I am sorry you are so scared. I can understand what a horrible feeling that must be. This was posted I see, a few weeks ago. Have you seen a specialist yet? Have they told you anything to help lessen your fears?

i went for my 24 week check up and was not told anuthing about my 20 week ultrasound. my afp test came back negative and i was feeling good. but a week after my appt. i got a message about an appointment with an ultrasound specialist. i thought nothing of it until i called the doctors office back and the nurse couldnt tell me anything. i got a hold of the doctor later and he told me my son shows enlarged kidney(s) he says it is in the variant of normal, but i cant help but be nervous. ive been surfing online and see that it could be a sign of Downe's. But my test came back negative. i also read that in most cases its nothing to worry about and that it will fix itself before delivery. all i'm asking for are your prayers. Thank You

I am 22 weeks and I am going threw the same thing. My Doctor told me that enlarged kidneys has nothing to do with a baby having Downes. He said most babies who have D/S will have problems with their heart not their kidneys.

I too am in your position at 18 weeks, I have all your same fears and frustrations. I am very sorry to hear of this for the 2nd time today! I am a BIG prayer person!! I pray constantly, and just wanted you to know I WILL be praying for you and your little miracle!

im 33 weeks and my son have enlarged kidneys, i was told that thing will fix themselves. i go every 4 weeks for updates and they have not. my worst fear is that in 7 weeks my son will be born with this problem and how bad will it be. my prays are with every mother esp. mothers like us. be strong, and lean on God.

Hi Ladies Thank you for sharing too. I too have been told my baby girl has an enlarged kidney of 0.6mm from normal. I too have been praying and it has strengthened me. And reading your post has made me more strong that God is on our side, I'm not alone. How are your babies?

I am 24 weeks pregnant and just found out my baby boy has one enlarged kidney and the other one is smaller then normal with cysts on it. They told me they are surprised he has made it this far and cant tell me if he will make the entire pregnancy. He will probably have to have a kidney transplant after he is born too. Im trying to stay strong for him.

I just had my 20 week sono and like most have been told the same thing, "my baby boy has enlarged kidneys. My concerns in regards to my baby are limitless. My Dr. has little to no information to share. I just pray my baby is not in any way feeling discomfort, and I guess that is what's scaring me the most. I just feel so helpless not knowing. I am due to see a specialist and hope they have all the answers.

Hi I feel all of your pain i am 18 weeks and just found out the sqme info. The bad part is that the cyst is at the bottom of the his kideny's worst case he won' t make it pass dilevery. I will go to see a specialist and hopefully he can do surgey and fix the problem. My prays are with you all and remember God has the hands of power.

GOOD NEWS!!!! Hi all I have just given birth and my little girl and she is just fine the kidney thing resolved itself. Actually I give thanks to God. He really can turn things around after all he is the creator! So for you all it can't hurt to have faith in God. You're in my prayers.

I had my visit with the fetal specialist. The results were the same with the sono, baby's kidneys were enlarged. Although, he stated that this was common in baby boys, he advised I have an amniocentisis done because it is also common in babies with downs syndrome. I didn't want to have the test done, because of coarse, I would love my baby regardless. However, he advised that it would also give him results as to how to prepare for the birth, if by chance there was something wrong. I received word on the preliminary results and they are great!!!! THe final results will be here in 2wks. God is great and so is my faith. I will do my best to keep you all posted.

I am 24 weeks pregnant now but when i went for my ultrasound at 18 weeks they found one kidney was enlarged they told me most of the time boys have larger kidneys and not to stress they sent me to a specialist and they told me if it stayed the same size it wasnt much to worry about but if it got bigger they would have to bring a pediactric surgeon in when i have him and they would have to put a tube in his kidney to figure out what the cause was it scares me so much i have been going to have ultrasounds every 4 weeks since 18 weeks i try not to stress but thats my baby boy

Hi all, I too found out at 20 week ultrasound that my baby girl has an enlarged kidney. Went in for Level II scan and doc said it was not functioning at all. They used the term echogenic. I am so worried for her, but also happy to know that her other kidney is working well. I will pray for all of you on here that your babies will pull through and be healthy.

I have also just been for another scan after my 20 week scan. was told that my baby girl has an enlarged kidney. been crying all morning. what do i do? i have another appointment in three weeks to find out if it has resolved itself or getting worse. please pray for me.

hi all....im in the same position i have been told at my 20 wk scan that my baby girl has abnormalities to both kidneys....very worried at this moment in time. She has hydronephrosis and mega ureter in one and abnormailties in the other.. although this is draining some fluid. Anyone had the same news??.. how did things turn out??
