hello, last week i had a bi-lateral
laproscopic tubal ligation. my surgeon
found that i have a severe bicornuate
uterus, many large cysts that she removed,
and one enlarged loaf-shaped kidney
slightly lower than it should be. my
appendix was also longer but looked
healthy.
i have fibromyalgia,severe depression,
hypoglycemia, and a moderate b-12
dificiancy for some years. i'm worried
that i have kidney disease or something.
i can't find info on enlarged kidney with
these conditions as well. i go back to the
surgeon for my post-op next week, but i
want to have smart questions to ask her so
i might get all the info i crave.
can anyone help?

Hi and welcome
Ask your doctor to do an ultrasound of the
kidneys. Most people are born with one
kidney slightly larger than other. The
ultrasound can give a clue if the kidney
obstructed causing it to be enlarged.
Enlarged kidneys due to obstructions can
be from a kidney stone, narrowing of the
ureter tube or a kink in the ureter tube.
A kink in the ureter tube is known as
either UPJ or UVJ depending on the
location on the kink.
UPJ is closer to the kidney and UVJ is
closer to the bladder.
Keep us posted and I wish you the best at
your follow up appointment.
Are you long in the torso? The reason I
ask is some people who are long in the
torso can have longer organs.
I hope this helps..

understand my kidney is substancially
larger than the other, my uterus is a
sever bicornuate: 2 uterus' connected but
not responding and my appendex is large as
well.
it all seems very odd to me. thanks you
for your resonce.

You are Welcome
Please feel free to pm me if you have any
more questions or post them here.
This sounds like you will need further
tests to get to the bottom of what is
going on with your kidney.
Keep us posted.

Hi and Welcome
How did your appt. go? Just curious. I
have problems with one kidney and mine is
from an obstruction. How is your other
kidney?

Hi and Welcome to ehealth
UPJ obstruction is when the ureter is
kinked at the kidney usually requiring
surgery to correct it. I've never heard of
it resolving on it's own.
It is more common in children but adults
can have as well. Most are born with it
but don't know it until either they have a
scan for something else or problems
develop.
If it goes untreated it can lead to kidney
damage depending on the degree of the
obstruction.
Please keep us posted.
Best wishes..

Kink in Ureter Posted: 07-14-08 11:28am
Hi,
I have had almost the same thing as you
have currently. Last year I found out
that I had a mild biconcurate uterus and a
severely enlarged kidney. Tell me, did
you have a impurferated anus when you were
born? If so, those two things sometimes
go along with that diagnosis. My kidney
on my left was about the size of an IV
bag, and it was like that for most of my
life, my doctors just never caught it. I
had it removed in January of 2007, it was
done laprascopically. Make sure that you
ask to see the CT scan and the ultrasound
pics. It is always helpful to see what
the doctors are seeing. Hope this helps!!
