so ive had this enlarged gland in the right side of my neck just below my jaw line for a long time now. a couple years ago i asked a doctor what it was when i was seeing him for a throat sickness which turned out to be mono. he told me it was nothing and probably due to the infection. so time went by and i didnt notice that the swelling had stayed. over time i cant tell if it has gotten any bigger but its definitely bigger than the other side. more recently i thought i had a knot in the back of my head, but further research on google tells me it could be another swollen gland possible a lymphnode. what could this be? i really hope its not cancer i feel like im too young for that,24. but my mother died in 03' from cancer so i hope that doesnt mean im more susceptible to it. please anyone with any medical experience give me some kind of explanation.

you need to get it checked out ASAP. get a blood test, and be abslolutely sure to get your thyroid levels checked.

Check the front of your neck where your thyroid is see if there is any swelling,It could be related to that but either way I would go to the dr to get it checked out.It could be swollen lymph nodes also which could be a infection somewhere in the mouth or throat. You have first degree relative that died of cancer,I would be extra vigilent to find out what it is and prevent any further problems.

Read up about thyroid diseases (hyper, hypo thyroid disorders, Hoshimoto's Disease, Grave's Disease). Also get checked for a goiter which can be caused by iodine deficiency.
