Hello, I am 55, post menopausal and have been having some light bleeding. My gynecologist sent me for a pelvic ultrasound (stomach and vaginal) and it came back perfectly normal. Today I had an endometrial biopsy. I am so nervous now about what the results might be. She said that since the ultrasound came back fine she's pretty sure its nothing too serious, but nevertheless thought it best to do the biopsy just to make sure. I was wondering if you agree with this. Also, if there's anything else you can tell me I would really appreciate it a lot. The results won't be back for about 1 week and I'm so scared.
Thank you very much.

Hi lynnly and welcome to ehealth...I would say that she is just taking an extra precaution...The sample is looked at under a microscope for abnormal cells... An endometrial biopsy helps your doctor find any problems in the endometrium.... It also lets your doctor check to see if your body's hormone levels that affect the endometrium are in balance....uring normal menstrual bleeding....You have a very thorough doctor....Why worry?...She probably would have told you if she was suspect....Take care...
