Q: Endometrial ablation information
asked by: DoctorQuestion on April 27th, 2009
Had ablation 2 1/2 yrs ago, removal 1 ovary due to endometriosis. This is my 2nd month in which I have bleed for approx 5 days thus far. Prior to ablation was told that my uterus is thick & heavy.

My mother has uterine cancer and her mother had her uterus removed many years ago due to pre-cancerous cells.

I was told that after an ablation bleeding may be possible upwards to 1 year however when I question my doctor about this now it's like no big deal even with family history.

It is now my understanding that a thick uterus can hide uterine cancer cells and by having an ablation can actually mask it even more.

Is this true and what tests should I have done and should I have a pap more than once a year?

Is there a blood test that can be done to detect these type of cancer cells?

Endometrial ablation is a procedure in which the inner lining of the uterus is removed. It might decrease the doctor’s ability to make an early diagnosis of cancer of the endometrium.

CA-125 is a tumor marker that is used in detecting ovarian cancer. It might sometimes become elevated in endometrial cancer, but is not used for detecting it on regular basis.
