Q: Emotional and dizzy on pill
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 12th, 2009
Had my first period when i was 13 and my periods were regular, id occasionaly get really bad cramps which would leave me curled up in a ball on the floor unable to move and crying my eyes out (but that probably normal) started getting a bruised like feeling on either side of my pelvis which would give me a temperature and make me nauseous (went to doc, doc said its normal). End of last year my periods became irregular (i had one every other month) and as time went on i started becoming very emotional and had lower back pain, nausea, headaches, lack of energy etc.
went to doc who sent me to see a gyno, gyno said my uterus etc were normal and gave me a mini pill to take for 3 months to regulate my periods and anti inflamitory pills for pain. waited 3 months for my period in which time i would begin to cry for no reason and was started getting back outs and dizzines along with nausea, one day i was really emotional so my mum called doc and she said that i need to go on progesterone pill -

Hello and welcome to eHealth Forum!

There are many causes for irregular periods such as high cholesterol, hormonal imbalance, highly stressful life, chain smoking, and dramatic changes in life style. Other important causes of irregular periods are polycystic disease of the ovary or PCOS and fibroid uterus. PCOS and fibroids have been ruled out in your case by ultrasound.

Severe anemia too is a cause for irregular periods along with nausea, dizziness and blackouts. A complete blood count, hormonal panel and lipid profile should be done to reach the cause of irregular periods.

Emotional outbursts can be a side effect of the pills you are taking. Progesterone only pills may be helpful but before taking them the cause behind irregular periods should be found out.

Since a confirmed diagnosis cannot be given on net please discuss these possibilities with your doctor once. Hope this helps. Take care!
