Dear Doctor,

I have been having elevated liver enzymes since june 29th 2011. ALT was 76 on June 29th 2011. On August 4th 2011, it was 54 and i also had Antibody test for Hepatitis C and it came back negative. I also had US which suggests Fatty Liver. Liver size is 17.6 cm.

I have been diagnosed with diabetes with FBS of 168 and RBS of 268.

I am worried about Hepatitis C infection as I was cut with a razor in a barber shop on June 20th 2011. Kindly advise.

Hello and welcome to e health forum.

Hepatitis C infection via blood stained razors can occur, only if your barber has used them on other people before using it on you, and the person before you turning up to be having Hepatitis C infection, and with high titres of virions in his serum.

Such issues are less likely, as most barbers now a days, do use new razors on customers and as a businessman, a barber would not like to harm his customers.

In addition, Since most of the serology tests have turned up normal, there is no need to worry.

About your liver enzymes, they are mildly elevated just above the reference range, and they could be due to the fatty liver and not due to hepatitis.

In cases of hepatitis, the enzyme levels are elevated above 500 units (At least).

Hence you just have to relax and stop worrying about things that happen rarely.

I hope this helps to relax your mind.
