Q: Effects of Nuva ring on periods
asked by: DoctorQuestion on May 1st, 2009
Hello,
I have been on the birth control Nueva Ring. Last month my period only last 3 day when normally it last 5 days. This month I only had my period for 1 day. I have taken a pregnance test now and it said negative. Is it possible I still could be pregnant? Should I have waited longer before taking the test? I had my one day period 4-28-09 and took the test 4-30-09 tonight.
Thank you for your help,
akite

Having a period that lasts even one day is a sure sign that you are not pregnant. However, many women might mistake other types of bleeding for a menstrual period.

The fact that your menstrual period is shorter than usual might be due to the hormonal effect of the nueva ring which is a device that is inserted in the vagina for three weeks and then releases hormones slowly. On the fourth week it is taken out to let the uterus induce and prepare for the menstrual period.
