Q: Effects of Depo Provera

I have been on Depo Provera for the last 9 years. I stopped taking the injection March of this year; is there any body signs to let me know when this drug is leaving my body? And does any form of detoxing your body help the process of this drug leaving my system?

Several people have asked about speedy ways to get Depo provera out of your system but I don't know of any safe, proven way to do so. When your periods resume, are a normal length, and are regular, it's a pretty good sign that things are back to normal. You can also get an ovulation detector to make sure you are ovulating or chart your periods for ovulation dates.

i went to a search engine and typed in how to detox the depo provera from your body. i cant give you the websites b/c it is against this website policy to do so. so you can research for your self.
it also say that it can take up to 18 months after your last injection.
i'll private message you.

They say to drink plenty of water, spend time in saunas, get acupuncture, do a colon cleanse, eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, exercise... But, as I said before, I have never heard about a Depo detox on any reputable medical website. It can't hurt to try it- most of the suggestions are beneficial to your health- but I'm reluctant to get your hopes up over something that has not been proven.
Good luck.

i agree, i was spoting for 1 1/2 months after my depo shot. i felt hungry all the time, i would get really sick when i dont eat. there was two other girls that had the same symptoms as me. but i found out some people do well with the depo shot. so after i got off of it i was put on birth control pills, and four days later my period stopped.

that shot made my relationship suffer for a little while.
i think it is different for some people, b/c my best friend got off the depo shop and the next month or two she was pregnant.

I have been doing some research, and you are right. All I need to do is to be patient. But it is very hard. I just don't know what to expect. Is it 6-8 months after your last injection?

It varies from person to person. I was on the shot for a little over a year. I took my last shot in July of last year and my periods resumed in February of this year.

I spoke to my family doctor and she said it is usually 3 to 6 months after your last shot. She told me if I don't see anything by october/november to go back and see her. I started taking depo because I got pregnant with my son at 19 and I was on the pill. With this, I didn't want to take any chances and have another child until my life was under control so I started depo. Now that I am happily married, I really should have considered stopping the shot. I am kinda kicking myself that I didn't do this reseach before hand. To me, this is a serious lesson learned! Thanks you for the advise, I do feel a little better!
