I saw a Nephrologist approximately a month ago for protein in the urine. The Creatinine ratio is 888.9 and I understand it should be less than 30.
About a week after seeing him, I started swelling significantly in the feet, ankles, and legs. I had an appointment to see him next week. However, his office called and changed my appointment to July 30th - more than another month.
I've already been swelling for about three weeks. Friends have told me to limit water intake and I've also been told to increase water to flush it out. What should I do until I can see the doctor?

You should contact your doctor. Tell him you are swelling up. He might order a diuretic for you.
You need to be careful of limiting your fluids because you need to stay hydrated then you need to watch what you put in so you don't swell much. It's a catch either way.
The best thing is to contact the doctor.
Also with diuretics they can deplete you of potassium and other vitamins and minerals.
You might want to talk to the doctor about this also.

Are they running any tests to see why this is happening?

Thanks for the info.

You're right with the depletion of the potassium with the diuretics. Many years ago I went through several years of low potassium -- couldn't get it above 2.3 or 2.4. That seems to have resolved; however, it makes me nervous thinking about going on a diuretic w/o talking face to face with the doctor.

I had extensive blood work done last week, but now I won't get those results for another month. The kidney ultrasound was normal. I have an eye appointment on Monday to rule out diabetes as the cause.

Yesterday when the doctor's office called to change my appointment I did tell the office girl I am concerned waiting another month to see the doctor because of the significant swelling.

Hi

Keep letting them know about the swelling. I have been put on potassium tablets (RX form) for the depletion.
With the recent blood work it will give your doctor a baseline to go by if and when they put you on a diuretic.
Please keep us posted.
Wishing you all the best..Smile
