ED & Marfans Posted: 03-31-08 08:55am
Hi
I just like to know if eating-disorders is
commonly associated (though most probably
indirectly) with people suffering from
Marfans disorder?
I know that people with
mitril-valve-prolapse generally has a low
BMI (Body mass index), but how much of the
cardio could be responsible for eating
habits in a Marfans patient? Does anyone
know why it causes a low BMI?
Since childhood, I have had several
problems in terms of eating...
1. I would feel full before I even start
eating and my throught would feel blocked
(as if though I had allready eaten too
much). I would have to wait a while and
would only then be able to eat.
2. I can't stand certain textures and/or
mixture of tastes. Some tastes makes me
physically ill and want to through up.
3. I eat vegetables but ONLY if they are
raw...i just can't stomache the texture of
cooked veges.
4. I can't stomache any sauce or
marinade.
5. I don't have to eat much to feel
full.
Some possibilities?
1. Hernia ?
According to a doctor, I am supposed to
protect my tummy as I have a hernia...if I
understand it correctly, this could cause
my stomache to push up into my chest
cavity and push everything out of
whack...
So could it be that my stomach reacts,
when food becomes a topic, in such a way
that it causes my throught to feel as if
though it is blocked?
2. High-Arched palette ?
Due to Marfans, the roof of my mouth is
higher and more arched...
Could this affect my taste and sensitivity
to certain textures?
3. Specific body needs ?
Could the Marfans, cause my body to crave
certain foods more than others and
actually reject certain food?
I can't see how it could be picky-eating
as it is just not possible for me to keep
certain foods down...
Any suggestions, comments? I am not too
overly concerned about my eating habits as
I have been eating like this for almost 29
years...I am just very curious as to why I
have such totally "different taste" to
other people.
