My son has been very sick. He is 13 months old. It has been about 2 weeks now. On Thursday we got sick of his doctor just brushing it off and we took him to a hospital out of county that has a pediatrics ward. There they were also stumped at first see he went from flu like symptoms which we all wound up getting horrible diarrhea and vomiting, we were better in 24 hours he continued to be sick. He got more and more lethargic and would not keep anything down hardly at all and what did go in came out diarrhea within 20 minutes or so, horribly.
I noticed when they put him on IV there were some white spots in his mouth. I asked the Dr. about thrush something little in his blood work that she didn't think anything of at first combined with the white spots made her check for mono. Test came back positive for EBV. She said to follow up with his doctor the next day and told us some things about it. I followed up with his doctor, who seemed to not take this seriously at all. Doctor at hospital said white spots in mouth not thrush, his doctor says thrush. When he saw bloodwork that tested positive for mono he said he will see him back in about a month to check his liver enzymes?? (which were elevated at hospital). A MONTH??? I managed to get him to decide to see him this coming week again but he is not running any tests or anything. My son is very weak. We are getting more liquids in him now and he barely throws up anymore but diarrhea has gotten more severe. My son was not a good eater before this and not any better now and this is all happening as we switched from formula to milk (which he was allergic so he is on soy milk) basically only thing going in him is soy milk and pedialite. I am getting more and more worried as I cannot find any answers. It is not common for a 13 month old to have EBV no less such severe symptoms and I cannot find anything about EBV and diarrhea.
I am trying to get him a new doctor but with medicaid and an HMO this is no easy task. I am losing my mind not knowing what to do. And his age makes it hard because I am so worried about his Spleen. He is set back now too because he cannot walk anywhere near as well as before most times he can barely stand and I am very scared.
Any help ideas, thoughts... any advice would be greatly appreciated.
