my daughter is going to be 5 months tomorrow. She has been eating cereal since 4 months, and mashed bananas for the past week or so. she used to eat the cereal fine, but now she wont touch it. And she used to also get so excited over bananas and now she wont touch that either. I breastfeed and I know that she needs more than just the breast. Can anyone give me some advice? She gags whenever i put anything in her mouth, regardless or the texture.

Have you tried jar baby foods?
I would start off with the vegetables, so she won't develop a sweet tooth (that is what my doctor told me).
You can't give up no matter how much she spits it out. She needs to be experiencing new foods. You can start one food every 3 days. This will let you know if she has an allergy to a certain food.
Also, those baby cereals are gross! Have you ever tasted it?
With my daughter, she would never eat it.
I just went ahead and started getting oatmeal.

I am sure you know that she really doesn't technically need more than breast milk her first year. You said that you know your daughter needs more than just breast. How? Just curious.

The fact that your daughter did eat food just fine, especially bananas and is now refusing could be just "a thing" she is going through. That sounds frustrating. So sorry!!

Marianne has a good point. I heard that as well.

I am still nursing my 9 month old. I first tried giving him rice cereal, bananas, and some veges. He completely refused. I tried and tried but no luck. He just wanted to be nursed and I nursed ALL THE TIME! Seriously, all the time. He is one hungry lil' man. I then tried a few months later at 8 months and he was more willing. Not all the time, though. One day, he will seem like he loves green beans and the next day he turns his nose at them.

My first child, Nathan, was much easier with food. I only nursed him for 10 weeks. I heard that may have something to do with it.

I guess I would try not to stress over it. If she is still nursing just fine then it is likely she is getting enough. My milk supply seemed a little off at times and I was very concerned. The doctor stated that as long as he seemed to be gaining weight and had wet diapers, then we didn't have to be concerned.

Hey, I actually like the baby cereal!! Strange - I know.

Good luck

Saragirl: I see you are in Canada also...try getting the Malupa Banana and Rice cereal...it is the BEST...and mine hated all the others...gerber, heinz..etc..
But he LOVES the malupa especially the banana/rice.

i have tried Simply Kids rice cereal, she likes that now, I have the plain Malupa cereal and she doesn't really like it unless i really water it down. I found out that she had an ear infection so thats probably why she wasn't too keen on eating. she eats more nowadays and im planning on getting om sweet potatoes for her to try because i want her eating veggies but she wont eat things that have no sweetness factor. any other suggestion on what jar foods i should try?

Some babies are a roller coaster at first. Since she is 5 months, she doesn't necessarily NEED solids. As long as she is satisfied with the milk she is getting, she's not going to starve. I'm with Marianne, start with veggies first. If you eat a banana, you're not going to want to eat green beans afterwards, make sense? If she doesn't want to eat solids that day, don't force her. She may just not want to eat solids that day.

What is the problem with breastfeeding...if you don't want to Bfeed, why don't you try pumping and giving the b.milk that way.
B.milk is still all he needs up until the first year of life...then you should be giving him Whole milk.
Plus, at 6 mo. you can start solids as well.
Susie.
