Q: Early period while taking pill

I skipped my period last week (I was on my honeymoon) and continued to take my birth control. I am supposed to get my period August 10 but I'm experiencing bleeding and cramping. I'm wearing a light day and there is what I assume to be blood. It's very dark. What's going on?
