When you orgasm, your uterus wall will contract (it is a big muscle after all). These contractions are the same thing you experience as menstrual cramps when your uterus contracts to seperate and break up the lining. So it is not uncommon that a good orgasm shortly before your period can speed up this process and make you start your flow earlier.

It is also possible that it can restart your flow shortly after it stopped, if you orgasm then.

Since you do say it was rough, it can also be bleeding from tearing or if his penis bumped into your cervix, bleeding from there. These are however all lighter and shorter than menstrual flow.
