Q: Early fetal movement

I am 17 weeks as of yesterday April the 17th
and I have been feeling what I thought were growing pains for about a week or two now
but tonight I have come to the conclusion and my co-workers agree that it is actually the baby or babies(not sure if there is only one) moving around.
It is my first pregnancy which makes me wonder is it normal for the babies to move around so much that my co-worker could feel it when she touched my belly.

Is this normal?
I mean I am diabetic so I know the baby would be bigger but I doubt that would effect the development of the baby so that the movement was noticeable earlier.
Twins do run on the dad's side of the family if that matters, and are over due.
