Help! I am 4 days post a severe posterior nosebleed. I had never experienced a nosebleed in my life. This came out of nowhere & I was swallowing lots of blood & it was coming out of the eye on the affected side. I was taken by ambulance to ER & PA inserted nasal packing with a balloon on the end of it. The first packing didn't work as I was still trickling fresh blood. The PA took it out & had me gently blow my nose. A big clot came out which he said was good. He reinserted the packing & inflated the little balloon. I am a nurse & he NEVER even offered me lidocaine or anything & it was uncomfortable! He told me I had to keep the packing in for 2-3 days until I went to an ENT. I called the ENT who he recommended & THEY told me that the ENT doc always has his patients keep the packing in for 5 days! I made an appt. for the 5th day post the nosebleed. The first 1-2 days weren't bad, lots of pressure but I didn't feel sick. From day 3 to now I have felt horrible, slight headache, extreme fatigue, all I want to do is sleep, absolutely no appetite & BOTH nostrils, the affected & healthy one are so congested I can't possibly breathe through them. My nose is running continuously & my affected eye is tearing. I have a sore throat everytime I talk, eat or drink. In other words I feel WRETCHED. Tomorrow I go to the ENT appt. I will tell you, that this has been WORSE than the 3 surgeries I had on my leg & 1 on my knee. Any encouragement or information is appreciated. Judy I am desperate!
