Amazingly, my initial reaction to the dx was...relief! I had been feeling "off" for approx 8 months since what I now realize was my first "Exacerbation" I guess. In December 2007, I went to the hospital for tingling in the right side of my face near my eye and severe muscle pain in my right side shoulder and neck. They doctors tested me for everything under the sun and after everything came back normal, they told me that it was probably nothing. For the following month, I was getting some tingling in my fingers and muscle stiffness in my left hand and arm that lasted maybe 5 minutes. For the next few months, I felt basically normal and thought that the doctors were right...it was nothing.
In late July, I began to get a re-occurence of the tingling near my right eye and also over my lip. Neuro doc ordered MRIs of my neck and brain, along with an evoked response test. The MRIs showed a few lesions in my spine and brain bridge and the evoked response test showed a slight slowing of the right optical nerve.
A few days later, my left foot began to feel funny. The best way to describe it is a hot/cold, tingly, strange sensation in the foot and lower leg. At that point, the Neuro decided to start me on Avonex (which I was just able to start 3 weeks ago). After the foot problem, I had two severe acute attacks within 3 days that lasted a few hours for each of them. Symptoms included sever muscle pain/stiffness, tingling sensation, muscle twitching, minor tremors, a slight vision problem in my right eye, and pain. Additionally, my coordination and balance were both off during the episodes.
For days afterward, I was very weak and wobbly when I walked. Since then leading up to today (almost 3 weeks), I have re-gained all my strength, coordination, balance and overall function. I'm able to go to the gym which is very important to me and run with ease. I am still experiencing daily bouts with minor twitching, tingling, muscle stiffness, and vision issues in my rt eye. However, they are extremely short in duration and don't come all at once. Some days I feel about perfect and others, I get those symptoms that come and go. No acute severe attacks since .the last two.
Sorry for this ridiculously long post,...I truly am, but I need some insight.
Does what I have experienced sound familiar to anyone? When people get remissions, does it mean that all your symptoms clear up or can you have lingering ones?
Thanks everyone in advance. I'm glad that I was able to get all of this off my chest! Any comments would be appreciated...
