Well I'm a student at a university so I have access to a lot of resources for research and have exhausted all of them, pouring over medical journals, checking out books, studying forums.
The gist of everything I have learned is what you can easily find on google, mononucleosis is a self limiting condition and to recover, one must simply rest.
Lymph nodes can remain swollen even after symptoms have subsided for weeks or even months, and are little cause for concern unless other symptoms are present ie: Night sweats, rapid weight gain/loss, extreme fatigue. These could be signs of lymphoma. Some studies have shown that the Epstein Barr virus is linked to a higher risk of developing lymphoma, but not enough to be worried. If you were anxious about cancer, a CT scan can be used to determine the extent of lymphadenopathy, my doctor informed me that anything over three centimeters is considered abnormal and should be biopsied.
Age seems to be directly related the severity and duration of symptoms (increase in age=increase in severity/duration of symptoms), this is not based on scientific data, but is what seems to be the overall consensus of what I have read on forums. Interestingly, I have read complaints of more psychologically oriented symptoms when the virus is contracted at an older age, but have no way of verifying this.
The owner of a local herbal remedy/ vitamin shop who I respect very much recommended I take the wellness formula from source naturals, it's an unpleasant pill to swallow, but seems to help. He also recommended an immune boosting drink called fizz-C , I like this product a lot and continue to use both supplements daily. My condition seems to be improving, and the characteristic fatigue is now a non issue for me.
Let me know if this helps, thanks for responding to my post =)
