Q: Dull ache in breasts
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 15th, 2009
About a week ago, I started having dull, achey pains in both my breasts. It since has improved very little. I last had my mammo 5 mos. ago which was normal. Also, about 1-1/2 mos. ago, there was a pencil-end size bump under the upper part of my right armpit. Initially it was pink and sore like a "hair" bump, but it since lost its color and sensitiveness. What could my achey breasts be?

Considering the fact that you have dull pain in both your breasts, it is highly unlikely that you might be experiencing a breast tumor. Inflammation is more likely reason for these symptoms. However, the pain in inflammation is usually more severe and described as sharp.

Depending on the part of the menstrual cycle, breasts might be very tender and sensitive. This is especially few days before the start of the menstrual period and in the middle of the menstrual cycle close to ovulation. If this is the case, then simply waiting for few more days will solve the pain in the breasts. Otherwise, you might want to visit your family doctor and have him examine your breasts for inflammation and eventually check your sex hormone levels in the blood.
