The goal of drug detox is to rid the body of toxins accumulated by drug use. Drug detox is performed in many different ways depending on where you decide to receive treatment.

Drug detox is performed in many different ways depending on where you decide to receive treatment. Most drug detox centers simply provide treatment to avoid physical withdrawal to alcohol & other drugs. Ideally, a trained detox facility will incorporate counseling during detox to help with the psychological distress that the individual may experience as well.

Detoxification should cover all aspects of the individual's withdrawal and purification from drugs. The removal of drug residuals is a key goal in drug detox. Without this process, drug residues can remain in ones body and cause cravings for years after drug use has ceased. A vital step in a successful drug detox as well as drug program is flushing out these accumulated toxic residues so that the individual no longer experiences unwanted adverse effects from the drugs they have taken.

Locate drug and alcohol abuse treatment programs nearest you by using the U.S. Government's Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration

Facility Locator

This can help you find drug detox centers by state or city where you live.

No. Medications given you during drug detox are not the cure for addiction. To recover from addiction, you need a program of mental, physical and spiritual change. Look into the 12 steps and seek treatment in a 28 day minimum rehab center.

Hello :)
Nice post. That said, I do think drug and alcohol detox help in recovering from all types of addiction, provided you choose the right attitude and rehab centers. Cheers!

While all addictive substances affect slightly different areas of the brain, the one thing they share in common is stimulation of the reward centers, the areas of the brain that release the pleasure hormones that make us feel good.

While Suboxone is fast proving successful -- one clinic boasts an 88% success rate after six months of treatment compared with just 50% for methadone -- not everyone has equal success.

For some addicts the effects are simply not strong enough to cut the craving, while for others, side effects including headache, withdrawal syndrome, pain, nausea, and sweating can make treatment difficult.

Still, experts say for most who try it, it offers the promise of treatment success with far fewer problems.
