Q: Drug coverage ?

How could I find an insurance company that would cover the expenses of Oxaliplatin for the treatment of small intestinal cancer? The drug is FDA approved and commonly used in colon cancers. However, given the lack of other medications and the relative low abundance of small intestinal cancer cases, some doctors prescribe Oxaliplatin for small intestinal cancer. Currently my father's insurance is giving him some troubles, because the drug is basically approved only for colon cancer. I would like to find out what is the policy in other insurance companies, and whether it they would have covered this expensive drug.

His doctor can submit supporting documentation as to the reason this particular drug will work with the type of cancer he has.

A drug that is used to treat one disease can actually be used for something else.

Will his drug company cover a drug for his current cancer other than oxaliplatin?
