asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 19th, 2009
for the last few years whenever I drink alcohol.. be it from around 4 glasses or more.. I will vomit the next day.. around 10 times in a 4-6 hour period, if i can get back to sleep it may stop.. but ill drink water and it will come back up, then bile comes up.. its horrible. ive tried all types of alcohol and it happens no matter what I drink. I wouldnt say I drink excessively.. could it be something to do with my stomach?

General Q and A Answer A5422

Alcohol is degraded in the liver. The liver contains a specific enzyme called alcohol dehydrogenase responsible for degrading the alcohol. The amount of alcohol dehydrogenase varies in different people. This is the reason why certain people get drunk easier than others. When too much alcohol is taken in the body, it sends signals to several receptors. Receptors are found in the cerebellum (little brain) causing dizziness. Certain receptors are found in the stomach causing nausea and vomiting. The vomiting is the natural way of the body to eliminate the excess of alcohol.
