Q: Double vision in left eye

For more than a year now, I've been experiencing double vision in my left eye. It seems to occur when I am under stress or exertion; also during sex. It lasts for a long time, usually anywhere between 20-40 minutes, sometimes longer. I have been to an opthamologist, a neurologist, had two mri's and numerous blood tests. My regular doctor seems to be stumped and the neurologist he sent me to hasn't even bothered to "look further". I had to call his office probably a half dozen times to hear, "your mri was normal". I don't know what to do. I am an otherwise healthy, 44 year old female. I also had some sort of carotid artery doppler (sonogram?), as there is a history of stroke in my family. I am very concerned. Help! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Kvell. I have gotten double vision, mostly in left eye. I believe I got it through the use of the cane and right side balance problems. I started to get these problem during the fall of 2008. I have seen two neurologists, they can not help. The opthamologist told me to see a neuro opthamologist but there was a problem with my insurance. She mentioned a vision therapist and prism glasses-which I already knew about. I will see a vision therapist on 6/30/09. Hope it works out. Speak to your doctor about seeing vision therapist. I believe in natural medecine, so I have been taking grape seed extract, which is good for vision. I am sure that has helped. Write back soon.
