I had a motorcycle accident and broke my collarbone in 2 spots.. They put me on a waiting list to see a specialist (orthopedist).. How long, they don't know.. But with the picture posted below, can someone give me a heads up on what to expect? Surgury? Metal pins? Any info helps.. Thanks

I would see a board certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in orthopedic trauma (you can check the AAOS website for a full list (www.aaos.org). If it was my collarbone I would want it to be repaired surgically since you have a displaced middle 1/3 clavicle fracture and it will likely go on to a malunion or nonunion in that position. I would want anteroinferior plating for that fracture which has shown to provide maximum stability in the literature. Check the Duke University site for good information on clavicle fractures .

Thanks for the info.. I have an appointment with an orthopedic specialist the 10th of July.. Hopefully, I won't have to wait another month to get the work done.. It's a very uncomfortable bone to break.. lol..

Thanks for the quick reply..

Wow - that is a long wait. Where are you located? Here in New York the turn around time is usually quick. If possible you should see an orthopedic surgeon who is board certified . All orthopedic surgeons are not created equal. Try to stay away from the motorcycle if possible. Good luck.
