Hello - I miscarried at a little over 6 weeks in October 2011 and am now a little over 6 weeks pregnant again. My numbers are looking a lot better this time around - my progesterone is 18.9 and my HcG levels went respectively from 99 to 273 in 48 hours and then from 273 to 7,917 in one week. My question is, do these numbers indicate a viable pregnancy? Moreover, if miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy were imminent, would my numbers be where they are? How reliable are these numbers in terms of being reassured that I am not going to miscarry again?

Hi, and thanks for your medical question on eHealth forum!

I can understand your apprehensions since you recently had a miscarriage. These numbers for HCG and progesterone are really good. However, presence of good numbers is alone not sufficient for pregnancy to carry forward. Fetal abnormality, genetic causes, Rh blood group incompatibility, low progesterone hormone, infection of the uterus, endometriosis, fibroids, etc are some causes for early abortion. You need to consult your gynecologist and run some tests to rule out these causes. Having said all this, do not worry much. Hope this helps. Take care!
