I've been taking anti-depressants (Fluoxetine) one a day for a year and finding it difficult to maintain an erection unless first thing in the morning. Any tips or advice people can give me?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike and welcome to ehealth: If the picture of you is correct then you may be entering into the foggy years of an aging man...Unfortunately, aging can take a toll and there are some things that some men must accept...First, I am not a doctor...I am a woman married to a man who has gone through all these stages in life...Even during his chemo for a skin problem, his erections were not bothered...However, that is because I never let him know that this medication may slow him down...It reads on anti-depressants, (as well as many medications) that this will and could cause a problem with your sex life...This message is written because some of the people who answered this questionnaire may have found this true...Yet, I always wonder how many were hot and sexually active to start?...So, why worry?....

It is true that as a man ages that he cannot hold his erection as long as before...Yet, I also know that filling your mind with self doubt is like putting ice between your legs to stifle any heat you may be feeling...Sexual arousal is a mind game...You feel it and you do it...You doubt yourself and you have already lost the game...You see I have watched my husband and he is really awesome...

The one thing you want is a partner who is willing to take you when you are ready...She must not be a selfish woman, but one that is willing to give as well as receive...

I hope that I have not confused you more, but IMO, any man with the right woman that is hot to trot can not only get an erection, but make her moan with want......My best to you...Take care...

fluoxetine and dapoxetine are both sold as premature ejaculation treatments. They do also have the effect of dulling one's sex drive as well. One solution is to take ED meds with your antidepressants. You might feel less aroused emotionally but will have a solid erection. This may help your partner arouse you the rest of the way. Anyone can PM me if they need more advice.
