I have been suffering with all kids of nerve related disorders for years. Well, a new symptom just came on very suddenly 4 weeks ago and my doctor hasn't been much help. He said it was an inner infection but when he looked in my ears he didn't see anything but good healthy ears. So he gave me a script for something that would take away my dizziness. It works for about an hour and I can only take it once every eight hours. I called my doctor a few days ago because he said it should be completely gone with in a week to ten days. He sent me a msg. through his nurse that theres nothing he can do about it and if I want him to he will refer me to and ear, nose, and throat specialist. I have seen so many doctors in the last three years I couldn't even begin to name them all. My question to you all is has this ever happened to you? Or does anyone know if you can have symptoms of an ear infection with out the doctor seeing that you have one? And lastly, in your opinion will going to the specialist be worth my time and money or will he tell me the same thing and to just wait it out? I should say this dizziness is affecting my life in many ways. I have to rest freguently, I can't take a shower because when I tilt my head back I fall, I can't run, I can hardly walk from stumbling so much. The list goes on and on. I;m just so sick of being sick with all of this and if I can get anything fixed right it would be this horrible dizziness. So like I said, I am desperate for any help anyone might have. Thank you so very much!

Hi Stacy Lady,

What kind of dizziness is it? Is it strong dizziness where you have a pressure in your head and the room moves?

From your description so far it does sound that way. Well do not worry because it DOES sound like an inner ear problem, something which I am very familiar with.

YES! Fear not Smile It is in fact normal for Drs (GPs and ENTs) to be rather clueless about inner ear conditions. The person you need to see for inner ear stuff is a neuro-otologist.
So if your symptoms persist then I would definitely suggest seeing one because they will be able to help you.

The good news is that even though it feels really horrible, it's usually nothing to worry about aside from how it makes you feel and how it affects you (which I know.. can be really horrible). And can and will improve over time. Hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones who gets better after a couple of months. Crossing my fingers for you!

Do not be surprised if you go to an ENT and they can't help you much. Although they may perform the Epley Manoevre if they think you have benign positional vertigo. And they may do some other tests too. I expect they'll either say you have Labyrinthitis, Menieres, Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) or similar. But they sort of all link in together really anyway and can be caused by/related to each other.

Don't panic you are going to be fine. There are ways to treat balance problems such as special exercises and physiotherapy.

I personally found that medication actually made my symptoms stronger so I stopped taking it.

I hope I have been of some help, if I have forgotten to cover anything or you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask! I have had to do so much research on it as when it 1st happened to me I was clueless and upset, just as you are now. Fortunately I found a health board (not this one) with other members suffering from the same condition which was a relief! And they were very knowledgeable and helpful.

Good luck Stacy, I am thinking of you.
