Q: Diuretics that don't raise cholesterol ?

I have tried the diuretic benzaflurizade but this raised my colestrol and the diuretic indapamide raised my blood sugar levels.

For those reasons I was taken off diuretic's. I have tried Calcium Channel Blockers, Ace Inhibitors & AngiotensinII and I have had a bad reaction to all of them.

I did not have any visible reaction with the diuretic's and got on well with them.

My question is, is there a diuretic that does not raise colestrol or blood sugar levels?

Extremely eHealthy
All diuretic drugs in diabetic people may increase the blood sugar levels.
Most of the time the degree of increase in blood sugar doesn't change much.
A change in insulin or oral antidiabetic dosage corrects this in most cases.
Certain studies have shown that drugs from group of diuretics are more effective than other anti hypertensive drugs in patients with diabetes or pre-diabetes and high blood cholesterol levels.

Thank you for your reply. I am not diabetic but I do have high Blood presure 165/89 on average. Benzaflurizade reduced this to 128/ 74 on average, but did raise my colestrol.

Indapamide also reduced my BP and did NOT raise my colestrol but did raise my blood sugar levels.

I am hoping to find a diuretic that does not raise colestrol or blood sugar levels. Is this possible?

Thought about alternative medicine?
Because of the way a diuretic works, your side effects of raised cholesterol and/or blood sugar levels are very common with diuretics. It sounds as though you may be one of those lucky people who can't use hypertension meds because of the side effects:) Don't get too worried though, it is estimated that only 20% of the population can control their BP with meds alone.

Have you thought about alternative medicine? There are actually several supplements and devices that have been clinically proven to lower blood pressure, such as CoQ10, garlic, pomegranate, hawthorn, potassium, calcium, the Zona Plus and Resperate. It seems like drops of 15-20 points systolic are not unusual for garlic, CoQ10, or the Zona.

If you are not already, it is definitely worth making basic lifestyle changes (you may not even need to do anything else!). It is critical that you are a healthy weight, don't eat too much sodium (I have been shocked by how much is in our food!), exercise regularly, don't drink excessively and don't smoke.
