Q: Disturbed and HIV fear
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 11th, 2009
Hello,

Please help me. I am mentally heavily disturbed. I was suffering from a skin virus infection and was very nicely treated by my doctor. But during the process of treatment which went on for about 4months, I happened to meet a govt doctor who scared me that I should get myself checked for HIV. my mind was completely disturbed from that day onwards and me being on the sensitive side, kept this to myself and did lot of online investigation and was totally down. After one week of mental torture, I could not take it any more and got myself checked and was negative.

But the problem did not end there. The after effect of one week, my mind started becoming very week and fear set it. I started assuming things and been going through this and got myself checked four times after that to clear my anxiety and was negative.

But the anxeity and fear is still there and meeting physcologist. But that particular day I get pepped up and go down again.

Please help.

Hello and welcome to eHealth Forum!

If at all you have HIV then it does not present just with a skin infection. You have done enough internet research to know that. Also since you have done so many tests to detect HIV and all tests are negative, you cannot have HIV at all. Subconsciously you know that. Even if you have had unprotected sex it does not mean you will get HIV.

You are seeing a psychologist. Along with that you can try relaxation techniques such as meditation, yoga, deep breathing exercises etc. Keep yourself active and engaged through out the day.

It is beyond the scope of net to give you continued assistance with this. You have to be strong, make up your mind, follow the advice given by your psychologist and you should be fine. Hope this helps. Take care!
