Hey all. I am getting my IUD put in on thursday and I have some ?

did you experience discomfort or pain right after the procedure? My mom is going to go with me so she can help watch my baby. But will I need extra help after? Will I be in pain?

Also when can you have sex after the insertion? We havent had any intercourse since before baby so Im not sure how sex will be. I know it will probably be challenging seeing as we havent done any penetration. We both have been waiting very patiently for the IUD. We know we dont want more children for awhile.

What was it like for you? Any suggestions about the 1st time after baby? Did any of you need lube? See, we have done other activities and it seems like im not as "responsive" as I used to be. I dont know maybe im thinking too hard. But im just curiuos and a little afraid.

thanks for your time.

Stay away from iuds!!
I had my baby in June of 08 and Had my Iud put in on July 22nd of this year. And my advice to you is do not get it!!! I had it taken out October 9th and I was bleeding from july to october and still am!! So you will not want to have sex. Its painful because your body with the hormones in the iud will not allow you to produce lube so you will have to use lube. I just want you to reasearh this before you get it put in. I am 22 years old and I regret it now. I have gained more weigh than when I did when I was pregnant. I work out 6 days a week and couldn't lose any of it while on the iud. And the hair loss is horrible!! But you do whats best for you. I just wanted to give you advice on what happened to me.

hey Sara thanks for the reply. I assume you were born in 1986 so was I!

yeah for 1986 !!!

well I got it put in today and it hurt like hell!!! I am still having mild cramps but not as bad as when they 1st put it in. Im sorry that you had a bad experience. Hopefully mine isnt as bad. I did not get the hormonal IUD I chose the copper Paraguard. I chose this because of the hormone problems. I cannot take hormonal BC because it causes me so many problems kinda like the ones you had.

so far I havent stopped bleeding. I hope I dont bleed to long but I know thats a risk and a probability. But this really is my only options besides natural family planning...so it has to work!

just an update on me...

i got my IUDv put in 7 days ago. The instertion hurt sooo freakin bad. I would compare it to a contraction! It hurt so bad because they had to clamp down on my cervix to pull it forward and hold it in place. According to my doc not all women need this done. My cervix was just in a different position towards my back. But the actually placing of the IUD didnt hurt at all I didnt even feel it.

I had pretty bad cramping for 2-3 days. But I am pretty sure I started my period that same day. Cause I bled for 5-6 days and then just completely stopped. And the pains felt just like period cramps. I have had zero bleeding since then, but there is a little more discharge than there used to be.

overall I am very happy with it and my decicision. there are no hormones in the Paraguard so I dont have to worry about weight gain, mood swings, and irregular bleeding.

so my experience was good and I encourage other women to at least try it if you cant take hormones. I do know that it doesnt work for everyone.
