Q: Discomfort in abdomen

About 24 hours before I need to have a bowel movement, I develop a strange feeling in my lower left abdomen. It seems to wrap around my left side and I can feel it in my lower back.

I have a feeling of fullness in that area, mild pain, discomfort, loud gurgling and I can feel my pulse very strongly in the affected part of my abdomen. All of these symptoms disappear after I have had a bowel movement, but they usually always return about 24 hours before I need to go again.

I think I can feel the pulsing because there is something in that part of my abdomen that pushes against the aorta. Occasionally I will have jelly legs, or weak legs during this 24 hour period, which makes me think a nerve or artery is being compressed and the nerve signal / blood isn't getting to my legs properly.

I have a bowel movement every 3-4 days and when I do there are usually 4-5 stools about 6 inches long and the last part is usually soft and not formed like a normal stool. This makes me think there could be a slight blockage there, although the stools aren't pencil thin.

I recently experienced a big bleed with a bowel movement but felt no pain. It went smoothly and I wasn't constipated so I don't know how the stool could have damaged the tissue. The blood was red, not bright but slightly dark and it soaked the toilet paper, made the water dark red and there were streaks on the stools. I had to go back to the toilet 30 mins later because there was still some blood coming out. As a result of the amount of blood lost I felt dizzy and light headed for the rest of the night.

The problem area seems to be one specific part of my abdomen that I could pinpoint.

I have other symptoms but they could be related to anything and I don't want to make this post any longer than it already is. Please advise because my doctor isn't taking me seriously.

Just an update:

It's been about 24 hours since the discomfort began and I have had a bowel movement a few minutes ago. Lately my stools haven't been thick but this time the stools that were formed were as thin as a vivid or marker pen. Some of it was bordering on diarrhea, but I had a mixture of thin stools and mush, and quite a bit of it. I have never had stools this thin before, but it could be because I started taking St. John's Wart yesterday so I'll see if it persists.

Having a bowel movement doesn't relieve the discomfort for an hour or two usually. I can still feel the full feeling in the lower left abdomen and can feel that pulsating in that area which I was feeling last night.

Have you been bleading every time you have a bowel movement? Or was it just that once? was there blood along with the near diarrhea?
I dont really know much about poo but you could check out this site maybe it says ways to keep regular. perhaps you are slightly constipated without even knowing it...

For a year or so I have had spots of blood on the toilet paper but that is likely to be hemorrhoids. I have only had two big bleeds like the one I described and they were both last month.

A typical bowel movement for me lately is 4-5 stools with the last one being near diarrhea and not solid, so the blood was present in that setting.

The thing that seemed strange tonight was the thin stools. Lately stools haven't been that thin, although they haven't been as thick as they were several months ago.

Nuts sorry about that link it was not correct...it is the right link but it leads to a page that is not what it was when I coppied it. Very sorry again.
How is your diet? Do you drink alot of pop? If you drink alot of pop sometimes it can cause dehydration, is there any chance this is constipation...

"Symptoms of constipation can include:

a sensation that the bowels haven't completely emptied
bloating of the abdomen, and possibly a "rumbling" noise
gas
indigestion
infrequent bowel movements
hard, dry stools that are difficult to pass
loss of appetite
pain or pressure in the belly
some bleeding as a result of straining
Constipation can cause complications. Very large, hard stools can stretch the anus, tearing the skin. These anal fissures can be very painful. Occasionally, a really tough bowel movement causes rectal prolapse, in which a small section of intestinal lining pokes out of the anus and has to be pushed back in.

Chronic constipation increases the risk of diverticulitis. This is when small pockets called diverticula are formed by the chronic increased pressure inside the bowel wall muscle and eventually get blocked and infected. Hemorrhoids can also be caused by the chronic pushing of constipation."

You mentioned that you have or have had Hemorrhoids, they as in the info above can be caused by constipation. also abdominal pain can also be caused by constipation. It sounds like you are fairly regular with the every three-four days. could there be a way that you do not know you are constipated?

sorry I figured I would mention that before any big conditions are thrown out. Sometimes the easiest solutions are the best.

If this doesnt sound right I will keep looking stuff up and asking around.

Both big bleads were last month? how far appart were they? did you feel pain with either of them? I know of one thing that would cause large ammounts of blood to be in your stool, however, it would be increadibly painful and there would be large ammounts of blood everytime. It would also be voilent diarrhea and blood. Basically if you had it, it would feel like death all the time.

Sorry for the long post!

Wow ! have you been to your doctor ? Is that amount of BMs normal for you ? I have 3 BMs a day & I'm at a normal weight with a normal diet. Sounds bad to me, I would see your doctor and stop guessing if I were you.
