Hi there.... I'm a newbie to the forum, but I stumbled across it in some mad google searching and thought this would be worth the shot.

Anyways, I just started my first pack of Alesse-21 last month (october 19th), the sunday before my period (which would have come on tuesday), and had EXTREMELY protected sex 3 times during my first full weekend on the pill (I'm talking taking the BCP religiously, using condoms and spermicide). My long time (well... year=long time to a teenager, okay?) boyfriend and I feel that we're taking all the necessary precautions and then some to make sure there's no babies being made here.

However, that just doesn't stop me from being a little worried right now.. :S

I just finished my pack of pills this past saturday, so sunday would be the first night I didn't take a pill. On monday morning I noticed a very little bit of dark brown discharge after going to my first morning class, and this morning was the same, however I'm not sure if it's bleeding or just gross discharge. :S I'm getting a little nervous that my period hasn't started, however I don't think that I'm showing any signs of pregnancy at all. No breast discomfort, no nausea, no weight gain...... Again, doesn't keep me from being nervous.

Has anyone else had this kind of thing happen when being on Alesse or any BCP? Just wondering when I should really expect my period or if this is it.. or if I should look into getting some prego tests.

Any help would be great! Thanks <3

Hello soshoutor and welcome to the forum! Very Happy

The period you get while on birth control may be very different than your regular period. While on the pill my period was just a light, brown discharge that lasted on/off for 2-3 days rather than my normal regular 5 days period I got off birth control. Short and light periods are a positive side effect while on birth control. Smile

This happens mainly because the period you get while on birth control isn't an actual "period". You don't ovulate and birth control messes with your uterine lining so the bleeding will be a little different. Plus some birth controls put a small amount of hormones in your placebo pills to ensure a short and light period.

In any case, I wouldn't worry about it. This sounds completely normal to me
