disagreeing on clogged artery Posted: 06-12-08 01:27am
Hi everyone,
One cardiologist says my dad's artery is
85% clogged and the other says 40% (at
most 60%) clogged. The first dr did the
cath. The 2nd doctor looked at the CD.
Is it possible the first doctor saw
something that is not on the CD? Is it
possible the first dr wants to do an
unneccessary stent?
Thanks.

Hello,
I am not a Dr. but from previous
experiences,
Both Dr.s found a percent of the artery
clogged. If the stent is not inserted his
artery will clog further and can cause a
heart attack. If I were him I would
defintley get the stent put it so the
artery will be 100% clog free.
Overtime if the stent is not put in his
artery will clog 100%, you do not want
that to happen. My friend just had a
heart attack. When she got to the hospital
that found that her one artery was 85%
clogged that is what caused the heart
attack.

blockages vs. ruptures Posted: 07-02-08 10:13am
I'm not a doc either, but there is tons of
literature now showing that most heart
attacks are caused by ruptures of
relatively small blockages. The larger
blockages are usually more solid and don't
rupture, but unfortunately, those are the
ones that dr's usually end up stenting.
Somewhere around 10% of heart attacks are
caused by the larger slow building
blockages, but those will usually be
preceded by symptoms. The rupture of
small plaque is really what you need to
deal with, and stents won't do anything.
Only thing that has been proven to work is
diet and/or lifestyle modification along
the Ornish/Esselstyn lines.
