okay, this is sort of gross...well I had my appendix removed around December of 2008, and I was always careful with my umbilicus because I was afraid that if I got hurt there I would die or something. Well now I am afraid to put my finger inside my umbilicus in order to wash it, so it's been getting dirty. I still use soap and water to wash it, and only was like a little inside of it not too deep because I am afraid that I will damage the stitches. I don't think that they removed the stitches and I still get a little pain once in a while. What should I do? I go to a mental health counselor, is there something mentally wrong with me...should I tell my counselor/doctor person? I am a male...12 years old...going to be be 13 in a few days...Please I need someone to help me with this problem! And an umbilicus is a "belly button"

You could use a Q- tip and gently swab the area to keep it clean. If your wound has completely healed, you can use alcohol on the Q- tip. If not, plain water will do.
