Q: Diplopia and leg pain
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 7th, 2008
Thank you for your time.

So far I haven't heard any positive possible diagnosis. I'm going to see a neurologist in June. I just want a stronger idea as to what it is I might be going into. Only other symptom I have is on/off aching leg pain. I usually have it in the mornings, but it also affects me occassionally when I go to bed, or when sitting. It is alleviated by movement/stretching. The acheing doesn't keep me awake at night, but it is annoying. It feels a lot like I just got done running 10 miles.

Are the two connected? Is there anything else I could be doing right now with my wait? I know it is difficult to make a diagnosis without seeing me, but can you suggest a possible diagnosis. I am noticing the diplopia more often, whether that's because it's getting worse or because I know about it now I can't say. Other than that I am healthy. I haven't been sick in over a year now.

It doesn’t seem likely to me that diplopia and leg pain are connected.

Diplopia (double sight) is due to an eye or brain disorder. Diplopia occurs when function of the muscles that move the eye balls is disturbed or not coordinated well. The problem could be located in the muscles themselves or brain centers (located in the frontal lobe) that control their contractions.

Leg pain can originate from the muscles or nerves. An X-ray image of the lumbar-sacral part of the spine may possibly exclude spine disorder as a reason for the pain.

You may want to wait for the laboratory results and consult a neurologist.
