Q: Digestive and Bowel Disorders Question
asked by: DoctorQuestion on June 25th, 2008
Last year, in August, I began showing symptoms of fecal incontinence. I am a female, 26, who has never been pregnant. At first, I was just having bowel accidents every couple of weeks, now it is weekly or even more frequent (3 times this week!). I am wanting to get my life back, and just want to know why I'm incontinent at such a young age.

- I have noticed something about the diarrhea - it often occurs within 30-60 mins of eating. In recent weeks, my stomach seemed to be rejecting everything I ate - I also bloat after eating
- I don't get much "warning" before defecation - often too late
- I can't hold onto the feces very well, harder stools are easier but I still have little bits leaking through
- I have quite strong Pelvic floor muscles (I do Kegel exercises regularly)
- I had blood in my stool a few months back, possibly from an anal fissure
- I have a lot of lower abdominal pain, nausea and bloating

What direction should my GP and I take for this?
