Good day doc, ive used triphasil for about 4 years and stopped recently because it caused nausea and ive gained allot of weight. So ive stopped to see if it would help with loosing some weight and stop the nausea. We then started using condoms but the condoms gives me heavy infections and irritations. Now I don’t have no choice but to go back on the pill. The sister at the clinic said that Nordette is a better pill, is it true? And would it help regulating my weight?

please help

Different birth control pills have different doses of hormones, which are chemical signals that your body reads...so that by taking a different birth control, you could theoretically experience different effects from each.

I'd suggest that you research both birth control pills on a drug comparison site so that you can educate yourself about the differences and make a list of questions to take with you BEFORE your next appointment

Here's some great general info on birth control pills:

Hi, charnejonker!
Nordette, can cause the same side effect, weight gain, as Triphasil.
Both pills are combination of same hormones and in some women they may actually lead to weight loss.
Actually, the hormones in birth control pills affect each individual differently.
You may ask your doctor about using a pill formulation with the lowest dose of estrogen to avoid weight gain as a side effect.
Also, some studies have suggested that women with insulin resistance (an inability of the body to utilize the hormone insulin properly) may have increased appetites when they take birth control pills and may experience weight gain due to increased food intake.
So, following a low carbohydrate diet may also help to prevent weight gain when taking birth control pills.
Nordette is considered as birth control pill with low dose of estrogen, and another low dose estrogen birth control pill, known as Cyclessa, contains even less estrogen and in some studies has been associated with weight loss.
You may also talk with your gyn about progestin-only pills.

Best wishes!
Marija
