You have many birth control options. Each works differently. What are the choices and what should you consider in order to help you make your decision? ...
Each method of birth control comes with risks to your health. What are the general problems you could encounter?...
This is the most helpful forum I've found. Here's my story.. I have been on birth control pills since I was 16. I just turned 23. I've never even switched the brand I was taking and I've never been off of them.I stopped taking my pills because I moved across the country with my husband (army wife) and all my prescription stuff got messed up and I decided to just leave it and not take them anymore.

My last period started on Feb 14 (great valentines day huh? lol) while I was still taking my birth control. I finished out the pack and ended on the 18 of Feb. The following week I had no symptoms whatsoever of getting off the pill. My husband and I had unprotected sex on either the 26th or 27th. Starting about Tuesday, I felt extremely weak and tired, with headaches every day. I didnt think too much of the headaches because I get migraines a lot, but these were different. Also, I never get them EVERY day and ever since we had sex I've pretty much had them every day. Anways, me being the paranoid person I am, am looking online LIKE CRAZY about symptoms of pregnancy. Everything I can find, I have. Tired, bloated, constipated like you wouldnt believe, sore nipples, irritable, etc. I also have read these are all symptoms of just getting off of birth control. So you can imagine my frustration. I have SEVERE baby fever (lol), I'd rather not get pregnant right now because my husband is about to deploy to Iraq and I dont want to be alone, but if it happens, I'll still be ecstatic.

Yesterday, something else happened in my body that made me even MORE paranoid and I cant get the idea out of my head. My nipples (not breasts, just the nipples) are EXTREMELY sensitive. Barely touch them and they get hard and then hurt to touch them. But heres the thing.. You know those bumps you get on your areolas? They are called Montgomery glands. I have always noticed them and thought nothing of it. But as of yesterday, they are A LOT more predominant. It freaked me out because they have NEVER been like that..EVER.. Nipples are still extremely sensitive. I almost want to just walk around topless in my house lol. Today the predominant bumps seem harder. They dont hurt, just are harder than normal.

I know I just need to take a pregnancy test to find out..But I also know its only been a week or so. I dont know if its possible to have these symptoms this soon? If my period is supposed to come at "normal" time according to if I was still taking birth control, I am due to start on the 14 of March. I am way too paranoid to wait until then..I guess I am searching for advice on if I am just getting too paranoid over nothing or not. Please help..Thanks!

Sorry for what seems to be my life story lol.

So here is an update. I took a pregnancy test on the 9th and again today, both negative. My period is due today, and there is no sign of it. I have been having cramps as if I was on my period today, but like I said, nothing happened.

Hey I found googling about my issue and I found your post! I'm going through the same issue. I am technically on the pill but what happened to me is slightly different. My last period started the day before yours and right around then I was put on an antibiotic. Then, I went to a foreign country and finished up my antibiotic but then had to go on cipro (for tummy troubles). Within that time my husband and I had sex for nearly everyday from Feb 18th-Feb 23rd...unprotected. After the first two times I reminded him about the antibiotics (bc I forgot myself) but since we were in a foreign country did not bring back up so we ended up with the pull-out method.

Normally, I thought there's no way. It was too early in my cycle so the probably won't happen. But here's the twist. When I came back, the morning I went back to work I went to take my pill and all of the sudden it slipped out of my fingers and down the sink drain...woops. I was mortified. But I figured, great, now my period will come a week early. It's been 11 days and still no monthly friend visit. I have been similar symptoms except not the nipples. I have been consistently nauseous nearly every day (vomited once), get tired easily, bloated and my boobs looked like they've doubled in size (which isn't much!). I also am experiencing dull headaches. The week prior I got bad cramps for a few days and my boobs really hurt but that's since subsided. Right around that time I had brown spotting but very faint.

I have taken several preg tests all of which are negative. I have an appt with my doc this week. I'm hoping all of these symptoms are related of abruptly getting off the pill!

Sorry for my life story but I will keep you posted on what happens.

Well I took another pregnancy test yesterday and it was also negative. I still havent gotten my period though. I'm now 4 days late. I think I'm going to decide to give up thinking I'm pregnant, and just trust that my body is just trying to get back to normal after stopping birth control. Kinda hoped I was preggo..

I am going through very similar sysmptoms. My LMP was 6/20 I finished my pill pack Saturday of that week. My husband and I TTC the first weekend of this month (July). After trying I was already getting signs of being pregnant I had a discharge and frequent urination so I went to my primary doctor to make sure I didn't have a UTI or a yeast infection... I did not. He then asked if there was any chance I could be pregnant I said yes, but it's too soon really. I took the test in was negative. I have an appt with my OB GYN Monday the 18th of this month for a preconception consultation I am also schedule to start my period that day. My face is starting to breakout like it would right before you start your period. Last week my nipples were a little tender that stopped this week I've been achy. I am so confused if these are signs of coming off the pill or getting ready to start my period or could I be pregnant?

It could be both. It's very confusing, trust me. I went off my pill last year towards end of May and became pregnant in early June. I was due for a colposcopy at the hospital and the nurse did a pee test and told me it was negative so they went ahead with the colposcopy. I was due for my period the week before and it never came so the nurses figured it was due to coming off of the pill. Took a hpt a week after colposcopy and it was positive. I thought it was also my body just trying to regulate itself from being on the pill since I was 17 (I am now 26). Unfortunately for that one, I suffered a m/c at 3 months (blight ovum, don't wish it upon anyone). As it sits now, I'm in the same stage AGAIN except this time I'm back ON the pill and have been since I had second m/c in December. I'm getting pregnancy symptoms again and can't figure out if my body is just changing due to the m/c's or if my body is changing due to aging lol. My period is due on Monday so only time will tell but I'm getting some symptoms I remember clearly when I was pregnant that I haven't had yet with my periods since. So actually to reply to "it's too soon" it's never too soon lol you can get pregnant almost instantly after you get off the pill within 5 days I believe is what it takes to completely flush all of the hormones out of your system (but don't take my word for it, I'm not a doctor). Regardless, I'm hoping for good news for you and good luck!! Smile

opinion?
So, I had my last period the 17 of september. I've had unprotected sex with my boyfriend a couple times. The pull out method wasn't completely successful if you catch my drift. About two weeks after all that happened, I got the depo shot. My dr told me that I might not get my period. But I'm also worried that I'm pregnant. I'm having a bunch of signs that I am, like cramps, nausea, darker around the aerolas. I took a pregnancy test the other day, it came out negative.. but it could be too soon to tell. Do. You think its my brth control side effects or I'm pregnant?

me too!
I also finished my period on September 17th. This was my first period coming off the pill and now I am late though I think this may be because of coming off the pill. All the same symptoms as you plus weak. tired, back pain and runny nose/ sore throat. Already taken 2 HPT which were negative. Saw the doctor today and said it could be either from coming off birth control which is most likely or im pregnant but shouldnt test again for a few days. I will keep you posted. I just feel terrible and it seems too weird to be just from coming off the pill. but being on it sinse I was 11 (now 26) means that I dont really know what I feel like without the pill.

Extremely eHealthy
I came off the pill at the end of august and had a normal period since then and I'm due on next week.

Some woman get a period within 4-6 weeks once they finish the pill whereas others do not get a period for 6 months. It can take as long as 6 months for your cycles to regulate themselves again and things to get back to normal. Smile

These past couple mornings I've been waking up nauseas and I've ben having head aches. I don't know if this is because I have a cold, or if I'm pregnant. My cramps are starting to get worse, and its been like three or four months that I've been off the pill and barely switched to depo shot. /:

Pregnancy or adjusting to no more bc
I have been going through the same thing! I am 22 years old and stopped taking my birth control last month the last day of my period last month July 14 and today is now August 10. I feel like I have tricked my body into thinking its pregnant since I have been looking at all the symptoms I'm having. Constipated, light brown discharge but no period, headaches, nausea if I have an empty stomach and frequent urination. My boyfriend and I use no protection and are trying. I do not know if my body is just getting use to being off the pill or If I'm pregnant. I have taken three HPT and all three were negative but I'm not sure if it's to early or not. Someone please help! Hoping for pregnancy

I am just as confused. I was on the pill for 7 months and 3 months ago I decided to stop taking it because me and my boyfriend are trying to have a baby. The day after I stopped taking the pill me and my boyfriend had sex. 5 days later I was bleeding but I'm not sure if it was a period or implanation bleeding. I have taken 3 hpt and they all came back negetive. My boyfriend just says that it is too soon to tell. I never kept track of my period because I knew it came on at the end of the month and could tell when it was about to come on. Ever since I've been off the pill my period has been starting at the beginning of the month. Me and my boyfriend have unprotected sex all the time and I have had symptoms of being pregnant. Dizzy, nausea on an empty stomach, constipation, irritable, even threw up on morning. On the day that I threw up I went to the Med center but didn't mention to the doctor that I could be pregnant. He told me that I had extra fluid on my ears and that my sinuses were acting up. He gave me a nose spray that I have been taking for the past week. The spray has stopped the dizziness and throwing up but the other symptoms are still present. I still don't know if I am pregnant or if my body is adjusting to being off the pill.

Coming off the Pill
I just had the same experience coming off the pill. I got married in the beginning of September and came off it on the 9th of September. The first month off I had all these symptoms and thought I was pregnant. I felt like vomiting all the time, couldn't eat certain foods that I LOVED, had very VERY sore and tender nipples, craved certain foods, had to pee all the time...the list goes on. I took four pregnancy tests after not getting my period for 5 weeks, all came back negative. Your body just needs to regulate itself. Even if you are having unprotected sex, you shouldn't assume you are pregnant because your body isn't in check and you may not be ovulating at all! I didn't until 2 months of being off the pill. So, no worries and I'm sorry if you were excited and hoping ( I was excited...and now somewhat disappointed) but wait for your body to catch up. My doctor told me it normally takes one to two months to get your period back, and a few more months to get it on a regular cycle again. Hope this helps some of you!
